About Us

Lu

Lu

When LuAnn was a girl growing up in Puyallup, her Dad gave her the name “Dutch” because she was such a rascal. Things haven’t changed much with LuAnn so don’t be surprised if she tells you about some great adventure (aka troublemaking) of hers. When LuAnn opened A Picket Fence in 1993 she hoped to provide a fun and unique shopping experience for women. Little did she know that her store would one day be voted “Best Gift Shop” in South Puget Sound. Silliness aside, two things stand out about LuAnn: She will go to the end of the Earth to care for her customers and she is committed to only carrying merchandise lines of the highest quality. Married for more than 35 years, LuAnn and Jerry have two daughters, Haley and Raimey.

Raimey

Raimey

As a little girl, Raimey Iselin coined the term “Pay-A-Way” (aka layaway) and she has been making her mark at A Picket Fence ever since. As a competitive gymnast, Raimey earned a full-ride at the University of Washington and graduated in 2008 with a degree in Art. Since then Raimey joined the family business and has been bringing her style to APF. Hip and edgy, Raimey livens up our shop with new lines in clothing and jewelry. She loves managing product lines with a social conscience like TOMS shoes (that you can buy on pay-a-way!) and seeing customers she has known since her childhood.

Haley

Haley

Haley Iselin has been working at A Picket Fence since her Mom opened the store in 1993. After graduating from the University of Washington, Haley joined the family business with her Dad. Now working full-time at Metal Roof Specialties, Haley considers it a treat to work some weekend hours at APF. We love having her positive energy around. In fact, Haley is so good at sales that she has sold herself almost one of everything in the store! Haley loves Koka, her four pound Yorkie, working in her garden and riding her pink Harley.

Sue

Sue

Besides working at A Picket Fence since 2004, collecting rocks and spending time with her family are Sue Nye’s favorite things to do. Friendly customers that visit us regularly make Sue’s day. Our stylish grandmother of six also loves working for LuAnn because, “I’m never quite sure what she will say next.” When you’re shopping be sure to seek out Sue for her expertise on unique home décor items and clothing that is comfortable and complements an active lifestyle.

Carol

Carol

Men! Men! Men! Carol McMullen is surrounded by men! In addition to her husband Kerry and three sons, Carol also works part-time at her husband’s Maserati parts business. Maybe that’s why she has been our right-hand girl at A Picket Fence since 2002. Carol fondly refers to APF as a sort of “Cheers” for women. She enjoys the girl time and years long relationships with regular customers. Carol has an eye for that unique piece of jewelry or clothing so be sure to ask for her when shopping for special gifts.

Jeanie

Jeanie

Living the dream or working at A Picket Fence? For Jeanie Hellwich, it’s all the same. For years friends were asking Jeanie, “Where did you get that?” Since her answer was always APF, it was just a natural fit. Jeanie’s favorite APF moments are when the store is decorated for Christmas and when the UPS man delivers freight from Brighton. Jeanie is nuts about Pandora charms and Vera Bradley bags. One of Jeanie’s proudest moments was at her daughter’s preschool graduation when Trilby announced she wanted to grow up and work at APF like her mommy.

Kurstyn

Kurstyn

Our newest addition to the APF family is Kurstyn Schober, but she is no stranger to Downtown Sumner. Kurstyn owned “Feather Your Nest” for eight years before she started working here in 2008. Kurstyn is the envy of her fellow Worker Bees…her husband of 25 years spoils her with lots of Brighton jewelry! Kurstyn and Chris have five children and five grandchildren and have lived in Edgewood for nearly 20 years. Kurstyn is known for her flair with design and her one of kind dolls and lamps.

Keni

Keni

Just like most businesses, we like to keep our secret weapon hidden. In the case of Keni Taylor, it’s often after hours in the stock room. Keni has been doing double duty at APF and Metal Roof Specialties since 2007. She likes to show up around closing time and stealthily build a shelving unit or redesign the Wall of Candy. Keni is, in fact, our own Martha Stewart. She can do anything! Almost an empty nester, she loves spending her free time sewing, gardening and staying in her pajamas.
